with your selected keywords.
One rule of thumb that can be used for MSN is the traffic for
any word that is searched by about 3 or 4 in order to get an
idea of the traffic that you would get from the number one
rank. If the desired keyword has about 1000 searches a day in
MSN, then the number one rank should provide anywhere from
about 300 searches. This doesn’t mean you’ll automatically get
300 hits but something in that range or sometimes even less
depending on the situation. But to be fully confident we could
say about 150 searches a day would be about the right figure.
After the keyword, the next thing to check out is the
competition on MSN. There is no point in selecting keywords
which you will never realistically rank for. The competition
doles out a lot of money to stay at the top so unless you have
their kind of budget, the best thing would be to stay away
from them, these people advertising themselves as the gurus of
the Internet will easily and quickly crush you. Try to rank
for terms which have less traffic and for which it is easier
to get the #1 position.
So what exactly are you looking for when it comes to the
competition? One way links from authority sites are usually
the best way to get into the #1 or top ten positions.
The truth is that you don’t need too many high quality inbound
links in order to rank for thousands of terms. This is where
it gets exciting, after your website has been uploaded and
optimized for all the relevant html tags, then the next thing
that you should do is gather links that direct to your own
page and these are a few suggestions that may help.
You can write a number of great articles about your chosen
subject or alternatively pay a person to write articles for
you. You can then submit these articles to free article
directories, your article can easily be picked up by other
webmasters and placed on their sites with your link directing
to them. What this does is that it creates links quite quickly
for your page.
You may also approach other webmasters in your topic of choice
and ask for link exchanges, the process however tends to be
boring, outdated and quite time consuming.
You can also make use of social bookmark sites such as
del.icio.us in order to get your content distributed and in
order to get you links from your tags. Search engines tend to
love social bookmark sites as they all provide high quality 1
way links and very high PR as well.
